“You should be able to get a hunting license and put your stands anywhere on the ship... you wouldn't have any pirates left in about a month.

surely evolution will create a plastic eating whale to clean up the oceans?
Well, there's this from 2006: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/36228"Apple Wins Deal to Keep iTunes Downloads at 99 Cents Despite Record Company Hesitation"It took six months of negotiating, as the music industry wanted to introduce a tiered pricing system that would allow them to charge more for new or popular songs, while Apple urged the companies to keep all song pricing the same across the board at 99 cents."Then there was this from 2007:http://news.cnet.com/Apples-Jobs-calls-for-DRM-fre ..."Apple's Jobs calls for DRM-free music"The letter, posted on Apple's Web site and titled "Thoughts on Music," is a long examination of Apple's iTunes and what the future may hold for the online distribution of copy-protected music. In the letter, Jobs says Apple was forced to create a DRM system to get the world's four largest record companies on board with the iTunes Store."Really, just run a Google search for "Apple fights to keep iTunes $0.99" or similar phrasing ("Jobs", "99 cents" etc) and you'll find a bevy of articles backing this up.It's entirely possible that Jobs has manipulated the entire mass media into twisting the good guy/bad guy roles around, but it's hardly a shocker to see the RIAA & labels as the greedier of the two (OK, Jobs is greedy too, but he's not as stupid as they are). |

Keep in mind this "trillion" dollar number is spread over 25 years. Spread a program over enough years and you can make any expense sound scary. Cut funding for NASA? ELIMINATING NASA wouldn't even make a dent! NASAs current budget is 18.8 billion dollars; they're asking for several more each year. The latest figures for the 2010 federal budget show 3.5 Trillion. That's 0.005% of the entire federal budget! There are much, much bigger fish to fry if we're serious about controlling spending. Sadly, politics will win out and NASA funding will be cut just so the administration can claim that they're "controlling spending" while doing nothing substantive other than harming a mission to Mars.

If you want to know who the criminals are, just listen for the loud bass. Absence of common courtesy is apathy, and nobody with common courtesy would drive around trying their hardest to force their thumping into people's homes and vehicles, and such apathy is the hallmark of the criminal psyche. If you want to reduce crime in your city, enact STRICT noise ordinances regarding car and home audio equipment. When the cops go to those home or search those vehicles, they will find the meth cookers, crack dealers, small time burglars , rapists, and murderers in your community, and be more capable of taking them off of the streets.Loud Bass = Human Garbage. |
