I've said this countless times, but it still is true.Minnesota, in particular Minneapolis, has the weirdest people in the country. You'll hear stories of people breaking into houses and doing laundry, or waking up only to have more trees in your yard than you had the day before.Man speaking only klingon to their kid for 3 years ranks pretty high on the weird-*****-o-meter, but isn't something unheard of.I speak for Minneapolis when I say, it could have been a lot worse.?

If you want to argue that insurance companies are rightfully wary of payouts to families of murder victims, fine, but don't try to dump this on the mother. Furthermore, if they wanted to include a provision that voided the policy if the policyholder was murdered, they very well could have included that rule. They didn't, so it's just weaseling at this point. "Insufficient proof" my ass.

This is true to an extent. However, after death the creditor can leave a claim on the decedent's estate. In some states this may interfere with any property being transferred via probate, perhaps even non-probate transfers such as life insurance and "payable upon death" claims. In some cases they may even require you to sign an assignment of benefits form for any life insurance policies you have before treatment. Also, often, medical and funeral costs are given priority over general creditors, be aware of that.If you're ever critically ill it's important that you deal with property and insurance issues ahead of time. Ie: If you have a $500k or $1M policy and a plan to pay off home and car debt, with the intention of leaving the rest to a lifetime annuity for your spouse, make sure it's taken care of correctly or you can end up losing a large chunk of it due to an unexpected last minute bill. |
