Coming soon to a business near you, Federal Cybersecurity laws, doing for IT what Sarbanes-Oxley did for accounting! Hope your networked hardware and software came from a vendor with good lobbyists otherwise your stuff won't be on the Cybersecurity Czar's approved list and you could face heavy penalties on your tax return for not operating complaint equipment. Of course I exaggerate some, but the Governments actions will always leave you with less freedom than you had before they acted..
If there were pics, you'd just shout "SHOPPED!"!

They had to get approval from a national telecommunications director to sell the iPhone in South Korea? I thought South Korea was a free-ish country? Why on earth does one require permission to sell a certain phone there??
When I was in Shanghai, I couldn't get on any of the social media sites I wanted to. I also Google "Tiananmen Square" and only got search results about what a great place it is-- nothing about its bloody past. HOWEVER, with the help of technology, some Chinese folks I know have been able to access information that's officially banned. But it's risky business--punishment is great if they catch you. The good this is that information is leaking in, which means citizens are being better informed. I even saw a mini protest when I was there in 2007. Great things are changing in that country -- and the government can't do anything about a lot of it. |

The interview was great but a lot of the comments don't seem to understand the reality of business. News must be paid for but a pay wall is just plain stupid. Simply reporting or commentating on an event can be done as a hobby but real journalism takes real funding. New revenue models are needed for the new distribution models. The ad supported model may work but pay walls won't.

Interesting question. That would be a great result but I don't know what would actually happen. What is known however is that low education level correlates with uninsured status. According to the Congressional Budget Office website, 25% of households that have no one with a high school diploma lack health insurance, and 50% of the same group lack insurance for at least part of the year. Contrast that with households with at least one member having a college degree: 3% and 10% respectively.I am pessimistic that universal health insurance would improve health literacy to a great extent. First, many are simply uneducated in general. Second, I doubt that many in this cohort would seek care in clinics or hospitals regularly. The same factors that prevent them from completing a HS degree (need for immediate income, lack of transportation, apathy) would likely hinder them from going to clinics, picking up medications, or going to followup appointments.

"The point taken on this is a finch is still a finch"A finch is not a species. There are many, many species of finch. Speciation can occur without the new species being something other than a finch. Learn some basic classification."they remain the same animal according to its kind"***** handwaving. Define 'kind' in precise, unambiguous biological terms. |
