I've worked in a clinical setting for about 5 years, but only at academic centers. Academic centers generally don't care about insurance status. The only time insurance status is an issue is when I need to discharge someone from the hospital, and the social workers are unable to send them to rehabilitation or obtain a home nurse to ease the transition for a few weeks. Generally speaking, when I see a consultation in the ER, or prepare them for the OR, I don't even know what their insurance status is.I realize this is probably different than a private hospital. I have been on the receiving end of hospital transfer requests from private community hospitals for patients who are uninsured, so I don't doubt that some of this suboptimal treatment goes on.Just wanted to say that not all hospitals are coldly calculating and cruel towards the uninsured as mentioned by janibrat.
He wasn't and isn't (in the stand-up sense of the word, anyway). But he's been in a couple of sitcoms and comedy films and his wit in interviews and even Twitter is obvious. He probably has a lot more comedy chops than you.

“it looks pretty sweet but it has that played out "web company" vibe to it. it seems to have become a battle for who has the "coolest" officeboom. 140 characters ^

It seems to be luck of the draw in my circle of friends. I've had my Dell laptop for 5 years with no issue, my step-dad is still using his 8 year old Dell as well. However, two friends with Dells have dead AC adapters. Another friend has a dieing Toshiba, went to buy a new one and it shipped with an LCD filled with dead pixels. One has a Sony Vaio that she beats the hell out of and it runs just fine.

I used to think the same way, then I realized two things: 1. I hate paying full-price for a CD when I only like one or two songs on it, and;2. Even though they aren't that big, CD's take up space. Most young 'uns aren't all that concerned about space unless they're in a dorm room, but when you're at an age where you're trying to simplify and downsize, every square inch of real estate is valuable. All that plastic isn't very green, either, if you want to get all 'crunchy' and make an environmental argument. Not trying to convert anyone, these are just my reasons for going digital in my 40's. |
