I would agree with you if it weren't for the fact that Australia's political system seems entirely dedicated to keeping the Liberal and Labor parties in power without any real checks and balances (because for all the bickering, they're just two wings of the same lame duck).The point of the Senate was supposed to be to give each STATE equal representation. That seemed to go out the window when some psychologist said that spanking a child == abuse == them turning into murders/rapists/drug addicts, thus we have to nurture their psyche with positive reinforcement and praise at all times. We can't be negative to our children, we can't tell them their blob on paper looks like crap and not an elephant (even when they're 16) and that every child is special and worthy of divine praise.Sorry for the lathered on sarcasm but I was spanked on teh bottom with a wooden spoon when I acted up. I didn't turn into a monster. More often just the thought of my father getting the spoon made me sit up straight and behave better. I understand that this form of childrearing is wrong in society today but I'd like to think I've come out with less baggage and problems than the youth today. Plus I don't advocate abusing children (i.e. getting the electrical cord and whacking them when you're angry or something happened) just a smack on the bottom (little sting) when they disobey.
