I somewhat disagree... Taking multiple exposures of the same image and combining them using the best exposures of each would be fairly analogous to modifying the tonal values to a perfect pitch.A better microphone would pick up more imperfections and cut out more noise. A poor singer would not sound better with a better mic, whereas a good singer would sound bad with a poor mic.A camera that can create a "perfect" picture doesn't help the user become a better photographer.I used to shoot professionally, and the best advice I got when I was learning was to shoot slide film because it is much less forgiving than print film. It teaches you how to get the best exposure by having a more restrictive exposure latitude, so you have to learn how to do it right.Also, at least for me, a big part of the enjoyment was knowing when to press the shutter, and knowing that you got the shot.I suppose you could compare it to hunting with a machine gun and a rocket launcher. You may get more game, and It would be fun to fire, but it would also take the "Sport" out of the hunt, and the satisfaction from the success, because anyone could have done it just as easily..
Just to put this in some perspective, the US government is spending $515 billion on the military just this year. At that rate we are going to spend $12.875 trillion on our military over the next 25 years.Now I'm not saying we should completely abolish the military but we could probably find a way to divert a "measly" trillion dollars from the military to NASA. Not to mention that lots of the research and development that NASA will do will probably benefit the military too.!
