Because you can never be sure you got all the fish out. It's more expensive and time consuming. Non-native species cause billions of dollars in damage every year. In Texas, we have several examples of non-native species destroying habitat. The Rio Grande never reaches the Gulf Of Mexico because of non-native ornamental trees that some idiot planted down there. The trees use exponentially more water than native desert trees. Texas lakes are full of non-native hydrilla plants that multiply so fast, they block the sun from reaching under the water, killing everything in the lake. And some moron dumped a bunch of Talapia in a river here and they eat other native fish's eggs.So... seems pretty simple to kill everything in a tiny retention pond, which isn't exactly a fish paradise by the way, in order to stop this non-native species from getting into a natural body of water and taking over.
