$344 billion by 2018, the estimated health cost of obesity in America. Might shed light on why fiscal conservatives are a little apprehensive about making grandiose universal health care commitments. Health care reform should start with removing the subsides that make our corn and soy-based fast food so cheap.
Having grown up on welfare and foodstamps, I know that it's a result of bad decisions, typically. People tend to get away with minimal effort in whatever way they can if they are allowed to. There is no shortage of charity (mandatory state imposed or voluntary private sources) for providing food in this country.

From a carbon standpoint, it's better to grow it than suck it out of an oil well. Then again, the amount of oil used to grow it often negates the benefits.?

I agree, AMLO is not a true leftist, and he's pretty weak and power hungry. Calderon is a major right wing jack ass who has only served to escalate the drug wars.

Yeah, I'm sure the people in Afghanistan and Iraq who voted recently would agree wholeheartedly with you.We can argue whether those countries are free or not, or whether it was worth the lives of so many, but we should at least agree it's a good thing their people can now elect their leaders. It's a start.

lowest common denominator is right. that's the problem. the more freedom, the more responsibility. and some people just can't handle freedom. i think another problem is the moral aspect, where do you draw the line? |
