@therightsideFTA:"Which brings us to global warming. Most scientists now believe that the tipping point for global disaster is a CO2 level of 450 parts per million. We are now at just over 380 ppm and could pass 500 ppm in thirty years — in which case, in the words of Dr. James Hansen, the NASA scientist whose grim climate predictions have been coming true for the last thirty years, "We will hand our children a planet that has entered a long, chaotic, transient period with climate changes out of their control, as the planet heads inexorably toward an ice-free state." There are skeptics, of course, some of them quite distinguished, and a legitimate debate about just how bad things could get. But the bet is all or nothing, and an alarming number of the "cautious" are the same people who said cigarettes don't cause cancer, seat belts are a waste of money, and evolution is a hoax."Pay particular attention to the last sentence, because it's a truthful correlation. The science is solid and no sceptic/denier has been able to step up to the plate to definitively demonstrate it otherwise. That conclusively demonstrates your wilful, prideful ignorance..
The fact that you are here AND commenting suggests otherwise. Nice try.!

I think "merely" is an appropriate adverb to use here, as it belittles the damage incurred by our redistribution of resources.

They're able to do this because that high-pitched sound is probably very close to the iPhone speaker's resonant frequency, which makes it vibrate like crazy. I don't own an iPhone but my guess is there's a small bass port or a leak spot on the phone and at peak resonant frequency the small speaker generated enough turbulence within the open duct to blow the fire out.As far as damage...it really depends. A speaker tends to draw less power from the amplifier at or near its resonant frequency due to impedance rise, I doubt the built-in amplifier can overload the speaker bad enough to fry its voice coil or crack the cone or surround, at worst it'll probably just eat up your battery life.

There are a few options:1) The could adopt a smaller rotation window. Units deploy for 6 months at a time with a 3 month draw down. The downside is it's more costly. But it's far less stressful on the people you depend on.2) Scale back operations. With Obama dithering on what the mission actually is, do we really need so many people deployed?3) Increase incentives for people to join. It's far easier on the people if they have a larger pool to pull from.4) Increase incentives for re-enlistment. Soldiers needs a REASON to be put through the ringer time and again. Soldiers with a deployment history in good standing who choose to reenlist should receive something meaningful. Whether that's an extra allotment, mortgage assistance, setting up some sort of trust fund for their kids, SOMETHING.

"They'll be more dependent on us than we will be of them"How so? They already do our mining, refining and manufacturing for us. I'm sure robots that repair themselves aren't far behind. |
