You've seen what happens when voters try to create competition for the incumbent telcos. Look at what happened to Wilson, NC and Monticello, MN. Both cities wanted someone to provide fiber to the home. They asked their resident telco, who refused. When the citizens decided to do it themselves, they were dragged down in court by the telco. In the Wilson case, the municipal ISP was able to get started, but Time Warner fled to the state legislature to try and purchase a ban on such endeavors. In the Monticello case, the incumbent ISP sued, and kept the project tied up in a legal battle that, while it was decided to have absolutely no merit, forced the municipal project to delay itself long enough for the incumbent to get a head start on laying their own fiber.!

Did I say I get my news from TDS? Didn't I allude to the fact that I've watched Lou Dobbs (meaning I watch CNN) from time to time? Luckily I live outside the US where I can get my news from the BBC and other REAL news networks where oppinutainment isn't the only thing on.?
I would guess that the lake beds fill with some water, the top of that water freezes into vast sheets, and a minor breeze multiplied by tens of thousands of square feet of ice area can easily move a rock. Besides, those trails look like they were dragged through wet dirt. |

I have an iPhone, but usability as a phone is not one of its strong points. I have to press a minimum of 3 buttons, physical or virtual, usually 6, before I can even start putting in a phone number. I handed my iPhone to a guy on a plane once before take off, his was dead, he looks at it and hands it back and asks me to dial in the number for him because he has no clue how to. Never had that problem with any other phone. iPhone is great, the touch screen is fun, but the UI is still *****, maybe the best *****, but *****. When can I get a usable camera in the thing? Plus the Japanese are smarter than most westerners, they would rather have features than a dumbed down phone. iPhone sells purely on Apple's name, that is why I have it, to create apps and exploit the masses. Here is to hoping that Android (much closer to true expandability than the iPhone every will be) takes off with the masses and Apple and their proprietary closed ways fade away like it is the 90s (but Apple was open in the 90s and that is why it was hurting, no Mac OS 8 and 9 sucked). Importing me a Milestone ASAP, iPhone will be purely for development then...
